After their partners leave them for each other, Daphne and Miles, now reluctant roommates, hatch a plan to pose as a couple. As the fake romance blurs into something real, both must face what they actually want. Emily Henry's novel was a #1 New York Times bestseller and won the 2024 Goodreads...
When Daphne's fiance leaves her for his childhood best friend, she is stranded in a small Michigan lake town with no plan and, awkwardly, a new roommate: Miles, the equally heartbroken ex of the woman who stole her fiance. Emily Henry builds Funny Story from that deliciously messy premise, as the two jilted strangers drift from commiseration to a scheme to pose as a happy couple, and from there toward something neither expected. Henry does what she does best - crackling dialogue, a strong sense of place, and beneath the comedy a tender attention to loneliness, self-reinvention and the families we are given versus the ones we choose. Daphne's dry, guarded voice makes the slow thaw genuinely moving. It is polished, warm, escapist fiction that respects its readers, and it landed as one of 2024's biggest books: a #1 bestseller and a rare double Goodreads Choice winner. For fans of smart, feel-good romance, it delivers exactly the pleasures they came for.
