Two fathers, one Black, one white, both ex-convicts, are bound together when their married sons are murdered and the police make little progress. Estranged in life from the children they failed to accept, the men set out for vengeance across rural Virginia. S.A. Cosby's crime novel examines...
Two ex-cons, one Black and one white, are joined by the worst possible bond: their sons, married to each other, have been murdered, and neither father made peace with the men their boys were before it was too late. S.A. Cosby turns that grief into a propulsive revenge story that tears across rural Virginia, but the engine underneath is remorse - for the love withheld, the bigotry unexamined, the fathers they might have been. Cosby writes action with brutal velocity and lands the emotional beats just as hard, refusing to let his avengers off the hook even as he thrills us with their reckoning. The book confronts racism and homophobia head-on without ever slowing to lecture, its social conscience fused to genuine pulp momentum. For readers who like their crime fiction fast, violent and morally alive, this is a modern standard-bearer - a blood-soaked, big-hearted novel about the price of loving too little, too late.
